Joey's Favorite Movie Critic

Here is the latest, some reviews of the Oscar movies that I've seen.

  • "Let the Right One In" is a surprisingly effective Swedish vampire movie.  The film has bleak and voluptuous cinematography of wintry landscapes.  It will spook you out of your wits and haunt you for a good, long time.

  • In "Revolutionary Road" Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio play a married couple whose arguments have a strong sense of urgency.  They have plans of moving to Paris.  There is a fascinating supporting performance from Michael Shannon as a recently released mental patient who sees right through the couple's facade.

  • "The Reader" is eloquent and has potent drama.  Kate Winslet gives one of the year's best performances.

  • "Milk" is a joyous and rich portrait of the slain gay rights activist and San Francisco city supervisor Harvey Milk.  The film is filled to the brim with wittily detailed performances.

  • "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is lushly photographed, well-acted and well-mounted but is totally peculiar.

  • "Slumdog Millionaire" is colorful and is a jubilant splash of vibrant talents.  The film has excellent cinematography and an interesting love story.

  • "Frost/Nixon" is an intrinsically fascinating work from Ron Howard about the tense interview between former president Richard Nixon and David Frost.  This is a well-researched and intelligent film that is bound to fascinate audiences.

  • "Rachel Getting Married" is a strong character study about a tumultuous weekend during which a character gets married and many riveting arguments amongst the family ensue.

  • "Doubt" is a powerful film about controversy at a Catholic school.  There are stylish tilt shots and spellbinding performances from the cast.

  • "The Wrestler" is another stylish tour-de-force from director Darren Aronofsky.  The film sports electrifying performances from Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei.

We are mad as hell, and we're not going to take this anymore!! Please join us as we educate souls everywhere to "STOMP THE STIGMA!"
