Statistically speaking.... OR NOT
Posted On 07/27/2010 12:00:17 by drxjm

Seems to me lately things focus around mental health, and how we all just want to feel “normal”.  I keep saying by whose definition of “normal”.  Inquiring minds want to know…  So I got to dictionary.com and search normal.  Here is the first result:

nor·mal

b.

No wonder we are all fighting for “normal”.  You want to end the stigma of mental health dis-ease…. Get rid of the normal.  Seriously though… I think there is a misconception even within the medical and mental health world that there IS a normal.  I think normal is what you make it.

So my question for you is this… will you allow society to dictate how you determine YOUR future.  When we take control back of our view of society and find a way to educate what mental health disorders are… and take the dis out of disease.

After all the reality is that everyone is affected somehow by it… either personally or by someone in their life.  Chances are everyone knows someone with some type of mental health disorder… Acceptance is all we are looking for… and it is coming.

Dear drxjm,  Thanks for wrtting me.. You are totally right..Normal is up to your personal definition of it.. We all have our personal definition of it. A lot of it is formed by what we were taught, how we are raised, the enviroment we live in and most of all our personal feelings that we have formed ourselves.. Just so you know what I was saying in the comment I left was to the comment left by stagepromo.. He said a joke.. I think it was funny. What you said though was the truth. No joke. I loved what you wrote about.

Ain't it the truth! well said. I mean, if they can publish a manual to dictate what insane is, why don't they publish one to dictate whats normal. i can really only think of two people who, in my estimation are normal- Barack and Whoopi.MO
