So the battle continues. My appeal has been filed with the US Court of Appeals and a motion will be submitted to have my case placed on the emergency docket.
But I have some disturbing news. The ACLU. who was so quick to jump on the case of the girl in Mississippi who's prom was cancelled because she wanted to bring a same sex date tell me they can't help me. It seems that prom cacellation is more important than me and my family's well being. How do I tell my children that people think a prom is more important than you having a hot meal and roof over your head?
The ACLU states "We are limited to handling cases which have a statewide implication, those which affect the rights of a large group of people through reform of law or government practice, and those that present a significant constitutional issue."
WTF???? Last time I checked, the mentally disabled were a large group of people who are discriminated due to myths and stereotypes. How can the ACLU give priority to prom over the well being of so many people.
I'm asking everyone on here to please help me.
here's the email I rec'd from the ACLU:
We have received your request for assistance. Our Executive Director had received your phone call, but she does not handle requests. I am the intake representative here and handle all requests for assistance. However, we have determined that we are unable to help you at this time. We are limited to handling cases which have a statewide implication, those which affect the rights of a large group of people through reform of law or government practice, and those that present a significant constitutional issue. Limited financial resources and limited attorney time prevent us from handling many of the requests we receive, including those where real injustices appear to have taken place. Our decision, therefore, is no reflection of the merits of your claim, but an attempt to make a realistic judgment on how much we can do with our limited resource base. Please understand that most legal claims have a time limit. Writing to ACLU-TN does not extend any time limits that may affect your specific claim.
