Hello,

My name is Joel M.  I have Bipolar I.  I was diagnosed and hospitalized in 1995 with mania.  About 2 years ago I had an episode of hypomania.  I have not had any other problems medically---my doctor says that I am on the fringe.  Despite my limited medical problems, I have had many issues with stigma---most recently leading to my job loss two years ago.  It is amazing how many inteligent, highly educated people can be so ignorant.  This summer I saw Joey on a late night talk show talking about No Kidding Me 2.  Last Tuesday he was on a local human interest show talking about the screening of his new documentary here at the Mall of America the following Wednesday.  I was excited to be able to thank him in person.  The documentary was fantastic and is helping and will continue to help so many people.  Joey obviously brings international celeberty to the cause, but has also assembled all the heavy hitters from medicine, show biz and politics.  Without his celeberty, Joey is inteligent, articulate, and incredibly well informed.  Joey has amazing empathy and the abilty to disarm people.  Joey puts people at ease while talking about subject matter that is still scary to many---We could not have a better advocate.  Joey was obviously called to this position and I know it is helping him live a happy life.  I am excited to see the ball rolling and look forward to learning how I can help.
