Giving Thanks
Posted On 11/21/2009 07:16:13 by SoldierfromIraq

Holidays are around the corner and I'm here in Iraq. Surrounded by thousands of service members who are away from their families, loved ones, and the good 'ol USA - and trust me after living in some austere places around the world...we have it really good at home. As Thanksgiving is next week, I've been reflecting on all of the positive things occuring in my life and what is yet to come. 33 years old and I know I haven't hit my prime yet!

I'm still very thankful that Joe and Lisa were able to come over here to talk to us and show that there are people at home thinking about our welfare and health. That's something that keeps me going, each day, each night, despite occasional rocket attacks and explosive devices being targeted to take our lives. The people of our beloved homeland keep me going. You all! This is why I serve in these austere conditions. I can't say that I agreed with our country's original motive to come here but there are significant contributions that can be made.Nothing's free and nothing's guaranteed but I'm proud to be here helping to establish a more stable, sovereign nation in this vulnerable area of the world.

Anyhow, thanks for all of the support and "thank you's" in the airports, streets, or other public places. We appreciate very much! And will never attenuate it due to it becoming more "popular" to thank a troop.

For all of you reading this back home, appreciate what you have every day and we're all here to help so don't hesitate to ask!

Carpe diem!

Thanks so much for the post. It's really good to know that we have the support back home. YOU'RE GREAT! THANK YOU!

I did hear the song that you mentioned and it captures so much emotion and appreciation. The members over here would love to see him live I'm sure!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Take care and again, thank you for your kind words, kindred spirit, and ongoing support.

Best,

SFI

SFI,

thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. although i agree with you about our motives for being there I also believe that the American people, for or against the war should back you up and support you regardless of their opinions. i have been thanking soldiers i see in airports, stores etc since the gulf war. i dont think that they ever had that before because they looked sort of puzzled lol

i lived in nj most of my life and also when the towers came down. my thought was to get to iraq, wipe them out and come back. either do it all or dont do it at all. but the beef with the liberals is that innocent people would be killed too. WHAT ABOUT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER VICTIMS...WERENT THEY "INNOCENT?" I have yet to this day found a war that no civilians were killed. it's the nature of the frigging beast. its sort of disgusting but its how it is. people have gotten so negative about life in general and basically they only think of themselves for the mostpart. Man, you are my HERO. I hope my other hero Mickey Mantle isnt mad lol   i blogged about the letter that lisa posted on here about the recent suicide of a soldier over there. so sad. i commented on the blog and if interested you should read it. and also, if you can listen to "a soldier's heart." its sung and written by r kelly. i cry each and everytime i listen to it.

thank you thank you thank you for protecting us. all of you are true heroes in every sense of the word.

God bless and you will be in my prayers...
