Rick Springfield, the hunky australian hearthrob of "General Hospital", and later rock and roll and now comedic fame,(Californication), has just released a new book about his lifelong struggles with depression. Springfield freely admits to having, in his own words, "committed suicide" at the age of seventeen-the only reason he's still with us is because of a poor rope, and poor knotting abilities.
He also goes on to say that he struggles with depression still, on a daily basis.
Having spent periods on prozac; he eschews a more spiritual approach now, finding supreme solace from his internal misery thru meditation. Rick also admits in this brutally frank tell all about his rampant poonhounding; saying that other than meditation; the only time his mind was really clear was during sexual encounters. However, Springfield has refused to fall back on the current "Get out of Jail Free card" of "sex addiction" that so many of the famous employ to get themselves out of sticky wickets now. He refers to his depression as "Mr.D", who sits upon his right shoulder and constantly tells him how worthless he is.
In this book, he talks about being bullied and abused at a very young age, and how the mere tenacious strength of his wife of more than thirty years has carried him through.
His recent turn on Showtimes Californication, which stars David Ducovny, (X-Files), has proved that this veteran of a crazy life still has his chops, he's an excellent comedic actor; with an unerring ability at perfect timing and ad lib.
Lets hope this trend continues-that actors and rockers alike will keep stepping up with their own stories of struggle aginst the demons who come to visit, "Late, Late at Night." In our media besotted society, it may be the only thing that'll finally de-stigmatize Brain Disease.
Why can't i find me
a boy like that!?
