Think i'm gonna change my name.

The way it is down here in pohdunk-there are no jobs- for folks like me that is- Oh Yeah, you can get a job if you're young an hot an fresh outa highschool- and more times than not you WILL get a job simply because of the color of your skin.

Now Don't get me wrong. i have black family-grew up in a mixed neighborhood- marched with Jesse Jackson, an Ralph Abernathy back in the day( an got rocks thrown at me for doing so.) The woman my kids call "Nana" is black-she's the only granny they've ever known- But i'll tell you what. Nana's the first person to speak up about the inequity of so called "racial equality". Nana gets really pissed off with these folks whom have attained some level of managerial power- not on the basis of intelligence, degrees or actual qualification- but because they be black. i'll never forget her bitin some womans head off because she pulled that "talkin with ya teeth together thing that certain haughty types are prone to do." Same with Tyler Perry. He don't play that crap either.

But here in pohdunk thats what we're up against. Last week, i was told that, even tho i have nothing-nothing- that i don't qualify for any kind of social service-food stamps-healthcare or housing-cause i got NOTHING. i've also been told to dumb it down- or better yet wipe my entire work history clean and pretend i've been a housewife all my life. i know i may be repeating myself here, but it needs to be said. White people of a certain age are being short shriffed when it comes to getting help, a job, or anything they need.

Look, i'm all for racial equality. Ya's got it- but just cause ya'll do- don't give ya the right to try to put it to the man for past pains. Hey black people- guess what?! My ancestors did not get here on the Mayflower from Scotland. They were hunted down by english overlords and sold into slavery just like you. Children were taken out of the mines and forced to come to this country on "The Coffin Ships"-just like you. Forced to be indentured servants til they worked themselves to death- just like you. SO FRIKKEN GET OVER IT ALREADY!!! WE'RE A FRIKKEN MELTING POT-SO JUST MELT ALREADY!!!

So now, i'm gonna start filling out applications under the name "Quonshay Macarena Gordon" and i'm gonna use Rev. Al Sharpton and James Brown as my references- and i'm gonna tell em when they ask about my qualifications "i don't be needin no qualmifications- you gots to hire me cos i be black-an dats all ya'll needs to know."  "An if'n ya'll don't be hirin me an lettin me call in sick every other day- well i'll jus be goin to da discriminamanations board an sue ya ass!"

And i know- know- my phone will start ringin off the hook with job offers- why, i'll probably be hired as a manager or CEO or somin.
